Migrate from Joomla. Leave the old extensions behind.

I move your articles, categories, media and SEO settings from Joomla to Webflow, or to custom development in Astro with Sanity. Old URLs get redirected, so Google loses nothing.

What carries over
Joomla → Sanity CMS

Why people leave Joomla.
And when it's time.

Joomla serves you well as long as it runs on a supported version and its extensions still have a developer behind them. Both are getting rarer.

  1. Unsupported versions

Joomla 3 reached end of life in August 2023, Joomla 4 in October 2025. Without updates, security holes stay open.

  2. An upgrade that breaks things

Moving from Joomla 3 to a newer version isn't just an update. Your template and some of your extensions stop working.

  3. Abandoned extensions

K2, older page builders and SEF components are no longer developed. Without them, both the content and the URLs fall apart.

  4. Messy URLs

index.php, IDs in the URL, Itemid and duplicates from the menu. Google then sees the same content on several URLs.

  5. A complicated admin

Articles, modules, positions and menus each live in a different place. Editors don't know where to change what on a page.

  6. Few people who know it

There are fewer and fewer Joomla developers. Every change waits for someone who knows your extensions.

Where to from Joomla?
Depends on who runs the site.

WEBFLOW

You want a visual editor

CHOOSE IT IF…

  • You write articles in an editor like before, just without modules and positions
  • It's a company site, a blog or a site for an association
  • Webflow takes care of hosting, backups and updates
Webflow development

SANITY CMS

You want a modular custom site

CHOOSE IT IF…

  • Marketing builds pages from ready blocks without a developer
  • The site connects to your systems and data
  • You want top speed and code without platform limits
Custom development

Not sure? I'll recommend one after an audit.

What carries over.
And what replaces the extensions.

I pull the content out of the Joomla database, including K2 and custom fields, and move it into the new structure. Here's where everything goes.

How a Joomla migration works.
From export to rank monitoring.

  1. Joomla audit

    Joomla audit

I crawl the whole site, go through the database and list the articles, categories, menus, extensions and URLs.

  2. URL map and redirects

    URL map and redirects

URLs with index.php, article IDs or Itemid become clean new URLs, each with a 301 redirect.

  3. Content conversion and cleanup

    Content conversion and cleanup

I move articles out of the editor, K2 and the page builder into a clean structure, with no {loadposition} or extension leftovers.

  4. Your content review

    Your content review

You go through the site in a dedicated feedback tool. You leave comments right on the page, and I fix them.

  5. Launch

    Launch

I switch the domain, check redirects, forms and analytics, and submit the new sitemap. You keep a backup of your Joomla site.

  6. Post-launch monitoring

    Post-launch monitoring

I watch Search Console and traffic. Whatever shows up after launch, I fix.

Send me your site's URL. I'll tell you what it takes.

I'll go through your site, extensions and content types and suggest whether to move to Webflow or go custom. No commitment, no sales pitch.

What people ask
about leaving Joomla.

Isn't upgrading to a newer Joomla enough?

For a smaller site on Joomla 4, sometimes yes. From Joomla 3 it's hard, because the template and some extensions don't work on newer versions. The work then comes close to building a new site, so it's worth asking whether to stay on Joomla at all.

Will my articles and their URLs carry over?

Yes. I export the articles, categories and media, move them into the new structure and redirect each old URL to its new one with a 301. URLs with index.php or IDs get simplified along the way.

Our content is in K2. Can it be migrated?

Yes. I pull the K2 items, categories, tags and extra fields out of the database and move them into Webflow CMS or Sanity. The new site doesn't need K2.

What happens to the extensions we use now?

I go through every one. Most get replaced by what Webflow or Sanity does natively, some get connected to an external service, and some you won't need at all.

Our site is in several languages. Can it be migrated?

Yes. I move the language versions and the links between them into Webflow Localization or a multilingual schema in Sanity. Language URLs and hreflang get set up again.

We have registered users or a members' area. What about that?

That's handled separately. Neither Webflow nor Sanity handles public user accounts on its own, so I'll suggest an external service or a solution built as part of custom development.

Does Joomla have to go offline during the migration?

No. Joomla keeps running until you approve the new site. Anything added in the meantime gets synced before launch.
